24hrs in Woodbridge, Suffolk
If you’ve never explored Suffolk before, Woodbridge is a perfect place to start.
Approximately 2hrs drive from Skylark & Co HQ it would be a perfect place to visit at the start or at the end a trip.
We enjoyed a short break here at the start of August and have highlighted some of our favourite bits below.
Kestrel on the grass pitch at Low Farm Suffolk
Stay
We stayed at Low Farm Suffolk , an over-25s campsite on the edge of Waldringfield village. The site is clean and very quiet with hook up and water accessed from our pitch. Facilities were clean and the booking/reception process was well-managed.
Eat
The Maybush Inn on the edge of the River Deben is a short walk from the campsite. Great service and delicious food we took the opportunity to walk along the coastal path beside the river to get to and from the pub.
Meal with a view - The Maybush Inn, Waldringfield
Visit
Just the other side of the Deben from Waldringfield is Sutton Hoo, the famous Anglo-Saxon burial ground owned by the National Trust. The overflow parking had capacity for motorhomes, even in the school summer holidays. The site itself is fascinating and the house has been turned into a museum with information about the burial grounds and the 1930s digs.
If you have mobility needs, there is a fleet of trampers and mountain-buggy wheelchairs available as well as plenty of benches on which to pause and admire the view.
Cycle
On our full day in the area, we unloaded the bikes and headed out to ride a ‘loop around the Deben’ using the summer foot passenger ferry at Felixstowe to cross over to Bawdsey. Tickets are £4 each way for a cyclist (or £6 return. The route is an adaptation of the ‘Woodbridge Wolf Cub’ route and takes in the Ramsholt Arms for lunch (assuming you leave the campsite around 9am).
Both routes can be found in our Campsite Cycles Rides Collection on Komoot.
